Bereavement/Traumatic Loss Explored at Free Community Workshops
More than 600 took advantage of the chance to hear Dr. Alan D. Wolfelt at on grief and grief recovery in April. This is the third time CGSS has brought the internationally acclaimed psychologist, author and grief counselor to Birmingham for a community-wide program. Dr. Wolfelt explored "The Wilderness of Grief" with the grieving and caregivers on April 5 at Canterbury Center, and "Complicated Mourning: Sudden Death, Suicide Grief and Trauma Loss" with healthcare professionals on April 6 at St. Vincen'ts Bruno Conference Center. These valuable bereavement workshops are part of the CGSS ongoing free community education program.
"Amazing", "encouraging', "invaluable" appeared repeatedly in the exit evaluations. Dr. Wolfelt did not disappoint, and folks continually took the time to tell volunteers and staff how helpful it was for them. We share a few comments with you --
- I only came to make my husband happy. He wants so much to help me. This did!
- Invaluable for me as a professional counselor
- All that I am feelind is expected; I am not totally crazy
- So valuable, so pertinent, so useful!
- Amazing speaker. Made difficult material understandable to the lay person
- Encouraging to the front line caregiver
- I'm so lucky to be able to attend
- Great workshop - on scale of 1 to 10; a 10+
