Volunteer Training
Draws Hospice Participation
CGSS
welcomed trainees from Family Comfort Hospice of Alabaster
and Hospice of West Alabama to join us for a day-long
Volunteer Training Class on April 17.
Clinical Director Steve Sweatt led participants in a lively
combination of lecture and role-play sessions. Steve was
assisted by Counseling Intern Misty Bailey and Administrative
Director Carol MacMillan as well as CGSS Board members
Sandra Craft and Maureen Alexander.
CGSS volunteers are the heartbeat of our organization.
They help in so many ways – contacting candidates for
support groups, providing hope and encouragement as “grief
survivors” and working on special events. It is their
generous gifts of time, talent and energy that make so
many CGSS services possible.
CGSS Leads
Three Groups at Grief Recovery Conference
Clinical
Director Steve Sweatt, Administrative Director Carol MacMillan
and Counselor John Harris were invited by the Alabama
Baptist State Board of Missions to facilitate discussion
groups in their Grief Recovery Conference at Shocco Springs.
Mike Jackson, Director, Discipleship/Family Ministries
for the Board of Missions, organized the conference which
drew more than 50 church leaders from around the state.
John led the “Grief Recovery Ministry” group for clergy
Carol facilitated the Loss of Spouse group and Steve conducted
the “Other Significant
Losses” group. Other conference leaders included Andy
McNiel, Executive Director of the Amelia Center who conducted
the “Loss of Child” group and Bill Tucker, Baptist Hospice
Chaplain with Alacare, who led a group on “Facing End
of Life Issues”.
CGSS thanks the Alabama Baptist State Board of Missions
for this opportunity to work with them to promote grief
education.
