CGSS Sponsors Free Workshops Featuring Alan D. Wolfelt, Ph.d., C.T.

Dr. Alan Wolfelt, a psychologist, author and grief counselor of international reputation, conducted two important grief workshops in April 2011, hosted by Community Grief Support Service. These and similar programs are offered from time to time as a community service for the benefit of all who grieve the death of a loved one and for caregivers to the bereaved.
In "The Wilderness of Grief: Finding Your Way", Dr. Wolfelt helped lift the veil on what is "normal" for those who are grieving and how to cope with lives that are forever changed.
In "Exploring Complicated Mourning: Sudden Death, Suicide Grief and Trauma Loss", Dr. Wolfelt provided help for the survivors of such tragic loss as well as for the professional and lay caregivers who need to understand and support them.
These workshops were offered free through the generosity of Alabama Power Company, American Behavorial, Birmingham Baptist Association, Dignity Memorial Network, Hospice Services of Alabama, Independent Presbyterian Church, Regions Bank, South Highland Presbyterian Church, St. Vincent's Health System and Vulcan Materials Company.
Dr. Wolfelt is Director of the Center for Loss and Life Transition in Fort Collins, Colordo, a noted author and educator, and a past recipient of the Association for Death Education and Counseling's Death Educator Award. This was the third time CGSS has brought him to Birmingham for community education programs. He has also appeared on the Oprah Winfrey, Larry King and NBC Today shows, among others. Dr. Wolfelt serves on the faculty at the University of the Colorado Medical School and is an educational consultant to hospices, hospitals, universities, funeral homes and community agencies across North America. He has authored more than 20 books on understanding grief and bereavement. |
